Asia Pacific Human Resources Business Partner (APAC HRBP)
Biotage is establishing a new Asia Pacific (APAC) Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) role to strengthen people leadership across the region.
In a lean regional setup, this is a hands-on role that partners closely with business leaders while also owning execution and delivery across multiple countries. Success requires strong collaboration, trust-building, and the right mindset, alongside relevant experience.
The role balances global Human Resources frameworks with local cultural, legal, and business nuances across diverse Asia Pacific markets.
This position is based in our Tokyo office and reports to the Senior HR Business Partner APAC & UK, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the APAC General Manager.
The role works closely with the Asia Pacific Leadership Team and the Global Human Resources team.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Strategic & Operational HR Partnership
Lead end-to-end recruitment for priority roles
Define role profiles, manage selection processes, align stakeholders, and close hires in collaboration with Talent Acquisition and hiring managers.Advise leaders on performance management
Support performance improvement plans, role transitions, and separations in alignment with Corporate HR, Legal, and Finance.Support organizational design and change initiatives
Contribute to restructuring, role realignment, and succession planning while ensuring fairness, consistency, and proper documentation.Drive onboarding, learning, and development
Partner with managers to identify capability gaps and support development, career progression, and succession planning aligned to business needs.Ensure labor law and policy compliance across APAC
Monitor regulatory changes and mitigate risks through practical, actionable solutions.Manage employee relations and sensitive cases
Handle disciplinary actions, grievances, and absence management with legal alignment and cultural sensitivity.Enhance employee engagement and retention
Implement recognition and engagement initiatives tailored to local contexts while aligned with global principles.Advise on compensation and benefits
Partner with global and local stakeholders to ensure competitive, consistent, and feasible practices.Leverage workforce data and insights
Track metrics such as turnover, hiring timelines, and performance trends to identify risks and inform decisions.
B. People Programs & Operational Excellence
Own governance of sales incentives and commissions
Manage cadence, templates, data collection, and timelines while maintaining clear RACI accountability.Lead key HR cycles (e.g., performance management)
Ensure readiness, communication, tracking, escalation, and completion.Strengthen leadership cadence on people topics
Structure agendas, track actions, and ensure follow-through.Lead people-related content for major APAC meetings
Deliver messaging on recognition, organizational updates, and leadership priorities in partnership with event owners.Drive standardization across markets where beneficial
Align local practices with global policies while maintaining necessary flexibility.Support workforce planning and scenario analysis
Anticipate talent needs, identify risks, and support strategic planning across markets.
Required Qualifications / Experience
Trilingual: English, Japanese, Chinese (business-fluent) – must-have.
Strong track record in talent acquisition and stakeholder management.
Proven ability in a lean, matrix, cross-cultural environment.
High confidentiality and trust building is required.
Execution discipline: plan, track, escalate, and close.
Fact-based, direct communication.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related. Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience as a Human Resources generalist, Business Partner, or related role.
Guideline: 3–5 years, or equivalent capability proven by driving key talent actions and handling complex people cases in a cross-cultural, lean setup.Working knowledge of employment law and best practices. Comfortable liaising with employment lawyers when needed.
Familiarity with Human Resources systems and analytics is a plus.
